Centre plans to 'totally clean' 50 cities under Swacch Bharat Mission

New Delhi: Consolidating its effort under Swacch Bharat Mission , the Narendra Modi government has prepared a list of 50 cities which will be cleaned by March 2017, the Economic Times reports.

Interestingly, among the 50 towns, some are the bastion of political heavy weights, Sonia Gandhi's constituency Rae Bareilly, Samajwadi Party's backyards in Etawah, Kannauj and Mainpuri, and Barh in Nitish Kumar's Nalanada are in the list.

Mulayam Singh Yadav and his daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav contested from Mainpuri and Kannauj respectively while Etawah is Yadav family's home district

The list also includes entire Delhi and state capitals- Shimla, Chandigarh, Raipur, Dehradun. Maharashtra's Navi Mumbai, Pune, Nasik and holy towns Tirupati, Haridwar, Allahabad also feature in the list. Besidea ealier mentioned towns, UP's Muzzafarnagar,Barabanki and Aligarh are also in the list

Five towns of Bihar also feature in the list - Barh, Mokameh, Arrah, Munger and Katihar.

These 50 towns will achieve the follwoing Swacchh Bharat Mission targets by March next year,

a) Open defecation Free (ODF) through construction of individual, public and community toilets:

b) house to house collection of Garbage

c) 100% processiing of same through a solid waste management plan

d) spot penlaties for littering

Besides government has also planned to make one lakh village by the end of 2016 against 54,000 on date.
