North Delhi Mayor Preeti Aggarwal was on Sunday caught on camera allegedly cautioning the officials from commenting against the factory in Bawana, where fire broke out on Saturday leaving 17 people dead.

As many as 17 people, including 10 women, were burnt alive or asphyxiated and 30 others injured in the fire incident at a plastic warehouse.

BJP Mayor Preeti Aggarwal, who had visited the spot to take stock of the situation, was heard telling officials "iss factory ki licensing hamare paas hai isliye hum kuch nahi bol sakte." (The license of this factory is with us, so we cannot speak against it.)

However, the Mayor later issued a clarification, stating that she is being misunderstood in the video that is being circulated.

Defending herself, Aggarwal termed the video "fake" and said that she only made some inquiry about the incident with her co-workers. "I meant that we shouldn't say anything about such unfortunate incident at this time," she said.

Criticising the Delhi Chief Minister for re-tweeting the video, Aggarwal said that she expects Kejriwal to apologize for the same.

The North Delhi Mayor who has courted a controversy, said that the industrial area is under Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation (DSIDC)and land allotment has been done by the Delhi Government only. "They should at least see what work is being done there", she added.

The Delhi BJP too came out in defence of its Mayor, terming the video 'fake'. Delhi BJP Chief Manoj Tiwari said that Aggarwal was quoted out of context to tarnish the image of the party.

"Preeti Aggarwal was asking the officials under whom does the factory come. The conversation is not clear, only 'ye factory' is clear. People are trying to make that fake video viral at a sad time just to blame the BJP", he said.
