Gurugram: Unidentified miscreants were caught on camera vandalising the statue of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder Kanshi Ram at the Ambedkar Bhavan in Sector 4 of Gurugram.

The CCTV footage shows four miscreants with their faces covered. One of them vandalised the statue of Kanshi Ram with a sledge hammer while three others were keeping guard.

Meanwhile, the dalit community demanded strict action against the culprits and warned police of staging protests across the state if miscreants not arrested soon.

Kanshi Ram, who also known as Bahujan Nayak Saheb Kanshi Ram, was the founder of BSP. Kanshi Ram was born on March 15, 1934. He had worked for the upliftment and political mobilisation of the Dalits and untouchable groups at the bottom of the caste system in India.

BSP has been demanding Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award, for Late Kanshi Ram.
