BjP`s Naroda MP kicks woman protestor, calls it 'Self Defence'
BJP MLA from Gujarat's Naroda, Balram Thawani, has been caught on camera brutally attacking a woman in broad daylight at a public place.
The video that went viral on Sunday shows Thawani (in orange kurta) kicking the woman, while one of his aides is seen slapping her while the passers-by observe the incident.
Another person besides Thawani is seen slapping her in the video. The incident happened outside the office of the BJP MLA.
The woman, who has been identified as the ward in-charge of NCP (Nationalist Congress Party), reportedly had gone to Thawani’s office in Kubernagar area to complaint about the lack of water in her locality. The MLA, however, did not cater to her problems and instead got aggressive and started abusing her.
“I had gone to meet BJP MLA Balram Thawani over a local issue but even before hearing me he slapped me; when I fell down he started to kick me. His people also beat up my husband. I ask Modi ji how women are safe under the BJP rule,” news agency ANI quoted the woman, as saying.
Balram Thawani later tried to justified his act by saying he had been attacked first and had hit her in self-defense. However, the video clearly shows him kicking her even as another man with his back turned towards the camera thrashes her.
Meanwhile, the police have said that the matter will be taken seriously.
