Hyderabad: Police today registered a case against yoga guru Baba Ramdev for allegedly hurting sentiments of a particular community.
A case under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Mir Chowk police station in the old city, following a complaint by a man named Mohammed Bin Omer.
Ramdev was booked for allegedly stating that but for the rule of law, he would have beheaded people for refusing to chant the slogan "Bharat Mata ki Jai".
The yoga guru made the controversial remark earlier this month against the backdrop of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi's statement that he will not chant "Bharat Mata ki Jai" even if a knife was put to his throat.
"Some person wearing a cap stands up and says he will not say 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' even if you decapitate him. Look, there is rule of law in this country, otherwise let alone one, we can behead lakhs," Ramdev had said without naming anyone.
In his complaint, Omer, a medical student and resident of Moghalpura, sought action against Ramdev on the ground that he hurt sentiments of the Muslim community.
