Bulandshahr Mob Violence: It's a big conspiracy, says UP DGP O P Singh

A thorough investigation into the incident was ordered by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday.

On Monday, a mob of some 400 people, including right-wing activists, fought pitched battles with police in Siana area of Bulandshahr district, apparently after right- wing activists were angered by the discovery of cow carcasses strewn in a nearby jungle. They set fire to dozens of vehicles, hurled stones and also opened fire at police personnel who retaliated with gunfire.In the violence, Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and 20-year-old Sumit Kumar were killed. Police arrested four people on Tuesday and were hunting for a Bajrang Dal activist in connection with the mob violence.

A thorough investigation into the incident was ordered by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday.The chief minister also issued strict action against those involved in to the alleged cow slaughter.​Adityanath also announced Rs 10 lakh financial assistance to the family members of Sumit from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Avinish Awasthi said.Meanwhile main accused Yogesh Raj released a video saying he has nothing to do with firing.

3:30 pm: Father of a minor named in alleged cattle slaughter FIR: The name of my son came up in the FIR. We were sent to the police station, they took our IDs but no interrogation was done. At the time of incident we were at Ijtema.

Four persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in mob violence that broke out after cow carcasses were found strewn in a jungle, killing police inspector Singh and passer-by Kumar, police said on Tuesday, as the grieving and angry families tried to come to terms with the senseless deaths. 

There was the heavy deployment of security forces in the area and tension spiralled as angry families demanded justice for their kin.

Twenty-seven people have been named in the FIR, registered around 3 am following the violence Monday, while cases have been lodged against 50 to 60 unidentified people, police officials said.

Of the 27 named, at least four are workers and functionaries of right-wing organisations, including the Bajrang Dal, officials said.
