Jalandhar: A six-year-old boy and his father suffered burn injuries when the latter fell allegedly after losing his balance while walking on burning embers as part of a ritual on the occasion of the annual Mata Meeriamma fair at Kazi mandi area here.
The incident occurred last night when Raja, while carrying his son Karthik, was walking on the burning embers. The bystanders rushed to their rescue and took them to a hospital.
Local BJP MLA Manoranjan Kalia, who met the injured father-son duo at the hospital said, "I have provided them a financial assistance of Rs 10,000 and sent them toPunjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS)."
While Raja has suffered 20 per cent burn injuries, Kartik has suffered 20-25 per cent burn injuries, he added.
During the annual Mata Meeriamma fair at Kazi mandi area here it is a tradition among the people to walk on burning embers spread 20 feet in length to appease the deity.
