A 28-year-old woman along with her five-year-old son, who was on her way to Kabul to join ISIS through one of the 21 missing Kerala youths, was arrested on Sunday morning at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here.
According to police, the lady, who hails from Bihar, was detained shortly before she was to board a flight to Kabul. A report in The Indian Express said that the woman has been identified as Yasmeen Muhammed.
She was detained by immigration officials during security check.
The report mentioned that Yasmeen, a divorcee, had reached Delhi with her child from Patna few days ago and she was planning to join one of the 21 missing Kerala youths who had gone missing last month and suspected to have join the Islamic State.
Kerala Police, which had issued a Look-out Circular (LOC) for Yasmeen, said that she was linked to Abdul Rashid from Kasaragod, who is believed to play major role in influencing youths from the state.
She was handed over to Special Cell of Delhi Police and later taken into custody by a team from Kerala Police, which charged her under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Yasmeen was on Monday produced in a court in Kasaragod where she was remanded in judicial custody.
Yasmeen was to leave the country along with the Kerala youths, but she could not do so due to some delay in getting her documents cleared, police said.
The report also claimed that Yasmeen had worked during 2013-2014 at the Kottakkal and Kollam campuses of Peace International School, which is under the scanner of security agencies for its links with 21 missing youths.
Yasmeen was born and brought up in the Gulf where her parents are settled, police said, adding that during the interrogation, Yasmeen said that she wanted to lead a life according to the Quran which ‘is not possible here’.
Rashid, police said, used to send messages from Afghanistan to Yasmeen, who claimed to have been his first wife. Security agencies tracked this communication leading to her arrest.
At least 21 youths from Kerala’s Kasaragod and Palakkad districts, who had travelled to the Middle East, have gone missing for the last one month and their families suspect they might have joined the ISIS. Families fear that they have been radicalised after having gone to the Middle East for religious studies.
