Patna: Six members of a family were killed in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district in the early hours of Thursday after a high-tension wire fell on their house due to the strong winds.
Superintendent of police Vivek Kumar said due to strong winds, a 11,000 volt live wire fell on the house killing the six persons. Two women and children were among the victims, he said.
The incident took place in Benibad village, about 70 km from here.
"A high voltage wire fell on their house when they were sleeping, all of them were electrocuted," a district police official said.
Meanwhile, hailstorm and lightning have left at least nine people dead in Bihar in the last 24 hours.
Two each were killed in Purnea, Jahanabad and Jamui district, while the remaining three were killed in Muzaffarpur, Dharbanga and Nawada. Maximum rainfall was recorded in Purnea.
Mango and Litchi crops have been damaged due to the hailstorm.
