Bhopal gangrape case: Two top cops transferred, three more police officials suspended

A 19-year-old student was abducted and raped by four men near railway tracks when she was returning home after attending a coaching class in Maharana Pratap Nagar.

The Madhya Pradesh government today transferred two cops and suspended three others on charges of mishandling the abduction and gangrape of a 19-year-old student in Bhopal. 

While Habibganj and MP Nagar City Superintendent of Police were transferred, Habibganh station in charge Bhupendra, MP Nagar in charge Sanjay Singh and GRP station in charge Mohit Saxena were suspended with immediate effect.

Police said that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has taken note of the incident and ordered that all culprits be brought to the book.

A 19-year-old student was abducted and raped by four men near railway tracks when she was returning home after attending a coaching class in Maharana Pratap Nagar. The incident had taken place on Tuesday at around 10 pm in vicinity of the Habibganj railway station.

On Thursday, police arrested all the four accused and booked them under the IPC Sections 376 D (gang rape) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention). The accused are identified as Golu Bihari, Amar Chhantu, Rajesh, and Ramesh.

On the basis of the complaint lodged by the woman, a case was registered at the GRP Police Station (Habibganj Railway Station) as the area where the crime occurred falls under their jurisdiction.
