BJP MLA from Naroda, Balram Thawani, who was earlier captured on camera thrashing and kicking a woman on a street, has now apologised saying she was like his sister.
This woman, Nitu Tejwani, had reportedly gone to his office to get a water-related issue resolved.
“She is like my sister; I have apologised to her for what happened yesterday. We have cleared out the misunderstanding between us. I have promised to help her if she ever needs any help,” he said.
The video that went viral on Sunday showed Thawani (in orange kurta) kicking the woman, while one of his aides was slapping her. All this while the passers-by saw the incident without a reaction.
However, by the afternoon, we saw the two not only settling the issue but sitting next to each other -- and Tejwani tying rakhi on the MLA’s wrist.
“Unhonein bola main tujhe behen maan ke chalaa hoon, aur behen ki tarah hi maine tujhe thappad maara thha aur mera koi galat vichaar nahin thha. Maine unko bhaisaab maan liya hai, samadhan sabne mil kar kiya hai. (He said that he treats me as his sister and as an elder brother, he slapped me. He had no wrong intentions. I consider him as my brother now),” Nitu said after tying ‘rakhi’.
Earlier, in the day, when asked about his action, Thawani said he “got swayed away” and hitting her was not his intention.
“I got swayed by emotions. I accept the mistake, it was not intentional. I have been in politics for last 22 years, such thing has never happened before. I will say sorry to her,” Thawani told the media here.
The twist in the tale is Tejwani had also filed a police complaint against the BJP MLA.
