Baramulla: An Army soldier has been martyred and four terrorists have been neutralised in an encounter that is underway at Naugam sector of Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
Following specific information about the presence of a group of militants, forces including Army's 35 RR and18 JAT launched a search operation and cordoned off the area.
According to reports, the slain militants were infiltrators who had sneaked into the Valley through Nowgam sector.
Meanwhile, a fierce gunfight between security forces and terrorists is underway in north Kashmir's Baramulla town since morning.
Two terrorists reportedly belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen are holed up in the area and efforts are being made to smoke them out.
A police official said that two soldiers were injured as the gunbattle broke out after security forces launched a search operation.
Two security personnel were injured in the encounter which began at 6.30 AM, he said, adding the gunbattle was on when reports last came in.
