The terrifying gangrape cases of Bulandshahr and Bareily that left the entire nation in a state of shock today reverberated in the Parliament, with members of the Congress, Samajwadi Party and the BSP terming it as a serious issue.

BSP supremo Mayawati today escalated the attack on the ruling SP in Uttar Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha blaming the government for the sorry state of law and order in wake of the incidents.

“Women and daughters are not safe in Uttar Pradesh. Incidents of rape, gang-rape have become order of the day and the atrocities on the fairer sex is on a ‘all time high’,” Mayawati said in Rajya Sabha while condemning horrific gang rape on mother-daughter duo in Bulandshahr district on June 30 last.

The BSP supremo also targeted the Centre for remaining silent on the entire matter.

Samajwadi Party member Jaya Bachchan intervened and questioned why only Mayawati was being allowed to speak, charging the BSP supremo of politicising the issue. Jaya also called for a discussion in Parliament on the matter.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also condemned the shameful Bulanshahr incident, calling it 'barbaric'.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Ambika Soni said that it is not the parliament members, but minister of the UP government who are playing politics on the issue.

On Tuesday, a teacher was allegedly abducted in broad daylight and gangraped in a field along a state highway linking Delhi-Lucknow NH-24 in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareily district.

She was abducted by three criminals and forcibly made to sit in a car before being taken to a sugarcane field where the crime was committed. The act was videographed, police said, adding that the survivor was left in the field by the criminals who fled after committing the heinous act in Khadua road under CB Ganj police station.

On getting information of the crime, senior police officials led by the IG, DIG, SSP, City SP and SP (Crime) rushed to the spot and a case was lodged against three accused who are absconding.

In an immediate damage control exercise, Inspector of CB Ganj police station Rajesh Singh was suspended by IG (Bareily zone) Vijay Singh Meena.

“Today at around 5:30 pm, the victim came to the police station and said that three men came in a Maruti van and kidnapped her. They then gangraped her and also filmed the incident,” Meena said.

“The police got the information in the evening and registered an FIR. All senior officers had visited the site of crime,” he further added.

On July 29, a family, which was on its way from Noida to Shahjahanpur, was waylaid by bandits on the Delhi-Kanpur National Highway in Bulandshahr after their car was hit by a blunt object. The woman and her 13-year-old daughter were allegedly dragged from their car and gangraped for three hours. They were also looted of their cash, jewellery and mobile phones.
