A boat carrying 40 people capsized in Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. 17 persons were rescued and several were reported to be missing.
The incident took place near Manturu of Devipatnam mandal on Tuesday evening around 6 pm. Local media reports suggest that the passenger boat started from Devipatnam and was en route to Vadapalli.
Last week, a tourist boat with 120 passengers caught fire in the same region due to a possible short circuit. However, the passengers made a narrow escape that avoided any casualties.
Last year, a boat accident in Vijayawada on the Krishna river claimed as many as 21 lives.
