Amulya Kumar Patnaik, currently a Special Commissioner, has been appointed the Delhi Police Commissioner, the Home Ministry announced today.
Patnaik is a 1985 batch Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre IPS officer. Before becoming a Special Commissioner, he also served as joint commissioner (operations) in Delhi Police.
As suggested by reports, government went ahead with Patnaik despite two senior 1984 batch UT cadre IPS officers - Dharmendra Kumar and Deepak Mishra - because he has maintained his ‘clean’ image for years.
Patnaik takes over charge from Alok Kumar Verma, who has been made the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chief.
