Congress leader and former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of state minister Navjot Sidhu, was the chief guest at the Ramleela event where 59 people were killed where a speeding train ran into the crowd watching Ravana-burning on the occasion of Dussehra in Amritsar on Friday evening.

Navjot Kaur had been claiming that she left the spot moments before the tragedy struck. However, videos have surfaced showing her leaving the place several minutes after several people were hit by the train.

"Madam, look here, they (people) don't care about standing on tracks. Over 5,000 people are (standing) on (railway tracks)...even if 500 trains pass by, they will not move," a video shows one of the organisers saying on mic to impress Kaur, the chief guest.

The video clearly suggests that the organisers ignored the lurking danger resulting in the death several innocent people.

Earlier, Navjot Kaur said several announcements were made from the stage at the event, requesting people to come inside the Dhobi ghat to watch the burning effigies.

She said that the gateman responsible for closing the railway barrier could have alerted the driver to slow down the train as several people were standing on the rail tracks.

"Could he not see the train coming and the people standing on the railway track? He was there on the spot. He could have alerted the driver to slow down the trai," she said.

"People were just looking at Ravana's effigy being burnt. They were not seeing that a train was coming," Kaur added.

She said when she came to know about the incident she immediately went to the hospital to see the patients

"I even arranged doctors so the injured gets treatment. Being a doctor, I provided medical treatment to some of them," the Congress leader added.

'It's a massacre'

"This is a mass murder...no...it's a mass massacre," Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal while accusing the Congress government in Punjab for the Amritsar tragedy.

Badal's statement came soon after Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said no punitive action will be taken against the DMU train driver as he was to be blamed for the accident.

"The incident was not a railways' fault. There was no lapse on our part and no action against the driver will be initiated. People should refrain from organising such events near tracks in future," Sinha said, adding it was not the time for blamegame.
