Amritsar Train Accident: Amarinder Singh meets injured victims, slogans raised against him outside hospital

Singh, who faced backlash for visiting the victims a day after the incident, said his government is ordering a magisterial inquiry under the police commissioner, who will submit a report within four weeks.

Amarinder Singh meets injured people

After 16 hours of the deadly train accident in Amritsar, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday paid a visit to those Dussehra revellers who suffered injuries when a speeding train mowed them down. 

Singh, who is facing backlash for visiting the victims a day after the incident, said his government is ordering a magisterial inquiry under the police commissioner, who will submit a report within four weeks. 

"We are ordering a magisterial inquiry into the incident under the police commissioner who will submit a report in 4 weeks," he said. 

The chief minister was visiting Civil Hospital and Guru Nanak Dev government hospital in Amritsar to meet the injured people, when he faced protests as crowd raised slogans against him.

Sharing official figures, Singh said 59 people had been killed in the tragedy while 57 suffered injuries. Postmortem of the bodies will be done as soon as possible, he said, adding that only nine bodies remained unidentified. 

He also ordered immediate release of Rs 3 crore to District Collector of Amritsar for payment of ex-gratia to the families of the deceased.
