Blast rips through Nirankari Bhawan in Amritsar

A pall of gloom descended in Amritsar on Sunday when a grenade ripped through a religious congregation in Rajasansi village, claiming at least 3 lives and injuring many.

It was on Sunday noon when bike-borne assailants, with masks on their faces, charged on a gathering of 200 people at Nirankari Bhawan. The two youth, carrying a gun, forced their way into the religious grounds on a bike while one of them got off the vehicle and lobbed a grenade at the huge gathering of people. Even though he was chased by people present at the congregation, he immediately rushed his way back and managed to escape.

Even as the security in Punjab was put on high alert recently after inputs that dreaded terrorist Zakir Musa was spotted in Amritsar, the incident on Sunday proved to be a major lapse on the part of authorities, police and security agencies. However, according to preliminary investigation, police have denied Musa's role in the attack.

It is also being said that there were no CCTVs in the Nirankari Bhawan, which is another daunting fact that has come to the fore, indicating that the main source for identification of the culprits might be difficult as the act reportedly was not captured in the specific area.
