National carrier Air India has decided to waive off cancellation and re-booking charges on all flights to and from Srinagar till August 22. The step has been taken in the wake of prevailing tensions between India and Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from re-booking and cancellation, applicable charges on refund and date change on travel to and from Srinagar have also been waived. It applies on all the domestic and international flights to and from Srinagar.
Earlier, Air India had reduced its maximum fare on flights connecting Srinagar to Delhi to under Rs 7,000 when the government directed the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims and the tourists to leave the Kashmir Valley, citing a terror threat.
Commenting on the plan, the national carrier's spokesperson said, "Air India has further reduced the fare from Rs 9,500. It is holding maximum fare at Rs 6,715 for Srinagar-Delhi route and at Rs 6,899 Delhi-Srinagar route till 15th August."
The development came after the Civil Aviation ministry advised airlines to keep fares from Srinagar in check as Amarnath pilgrims and tourists rushed to the airport after the Jammu and Kashmir administration asked them to curtail their stay in the state.
The country's aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, had advised airlines to be ready to operate additional flights from the Srinagar airport if the need arises.
After the intelligence inputs warned of a possible terror attack on the Amarnath Yatra, the Jammu and Kashmir administration asked pilgrims and tourists to curtail their stay in the Valley and leave immediately.
