A four-year-old Dalit girl was raped and left in a field with serious injuries in Kheda village of Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, in the wee hours on Saturday.
According to police, the girl was picked up from her house by some unidentified men while she was sleeping.
The girl was immediately rushed to Meerut and was operated at LLRM Medical College, police said, adding that they have filed an FIR after medical report confirmed that the she was raped.
Police said that the girl had suffered serious injuries in her private parts and now she is responding well to the treatment.
Father of the victim said that at around 12 in the night he woke up due to drizzle and found that his daughter was missing.
“After a search, we found her bleeding near a tube-well. For two hours, we kept on dialling police helpline number -100-- but no one picked up the phone,” he said.
After getting no response the police, villagers, demanding the arrest of the accused, protested against the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the state and blocked the NH-24. Police officials later rushed to the spot and cleared the highway for traffic after assuring the villagers of action against.
The incident comes close on the heels of Bulandshahr gang rape case. At least eight armed men had stopped the car of a family on the Delhi-Kanpur highway on last Saturday night and dragged the members to nearby sugarcane fields and proceeded to rape 38-year-old mother and her teenage daughter.
