Days after a school in Allahabad banned its students and staff from reciting the National Anthem, claiming that its words violate the tenets of Islam, a similar shameful incident has come to light in Rajasthan’s Barmer district.

According to a Times of India report, a private school in Barmer has banned its students from reciting the National Anthem, citing it as ‘anti-Islam’.

The Maulana Vali Mohammad Registan School, situated in Pandi ki Paar village, allegedly forced Hindu students to read the Quran, it said.

On the orders of district collector Sudhir Kumar Sharma, a team of officials inquired into the incident. The team spoke to the students who were preparing for the Independence Day celebrations.

In its report, the team said that prima facie allegation was found to be true.

The private school has 250 students, which include 30 Hindus.

“We run special Quran classes for Muslim students after school hours,” Jeewa Ram, a teacher and coordinator of the Independence Day celebration committee, was quoted by Times of India as saying.

Last week, MA Convent school in Allahabad banned its students and staff from reciting National Anthem on Independence Day. Following this, the principal along with eight teachers, quit the job in protest against the diktat. The school manager had claimed that the phrase ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’ violate the basic tenets of Islam.

Later, a probe was launched and the school was booked under sedition charges and sealed.
