African nationals beat up Ola cab driver for refusing extra passengers

A taxi driver was beaten up today in the national capital allegedly by a group of six African nationals including two women after he refused to take on board more than four people.

New Delhi: A taxi driver was beaten up today in the national capital allegedly by a group of six African nationals including two women after he refused to take on board more than four people.

The incident took place at around 4 am today in Mehrauli area, police said, adding that the victim has been identified as Nuruddin, an Ola cab driver.

The taxi driver suffered cuts and bruises near his left eye in the attack. He is presently being treated at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.

According to police, Nuruddin said, the taxi No DL1YE5087 was booked through Ola to go to Dwarka.

The Delhi Police has filed a complaint against the African nationals for assaulting Nuruddin. They have also arrested a Rwanda woman, who was with the African attackers at the time of incident. The other five are still on the run.

Police said that they have identified all the absconding five suspects and have launched a manhunt to nab them.

The incident comes in the midst of growing tension in the capital over attacks on Africans. Six African nationals were attacked in Mehrauli area last week allegedly with cricket bats and sticks. Earlier, a Nigerian student in Hyderabad was beaten up by the local residents during a spat over parking space.

Earlier this month, 23-year-old Congolese national Masonda Ketada Olivier was beaten to death after a verbal altercation over the hiring of an auto-rickshaw in Vasant Kunj area of south Delhi.
