Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a deputy transport commissioner in Andhra Pradesh after conducting raids at several locations in the state including Telangana and Karnataka that unearthed assets worth a whopping Rs 800 crores.
According to ACB officials, the IAS officer, who has been identified as A Mohan, was arrested from East Godavari district, where he was posted in the capacity of deputy transport commissioner. The ACB also seized assets worth Rs 800 crores during raids across 9 houses owned by him.
ACB officials, led by its Central Investigation Unit DSP A Ramadevi, raided Mohan's 9 houses.
ACB officials said that several bank lockers linked to the deputy transport commissioner are yet to be opened and searched. They said that Mohan has assets worth Rs 800 crore at market value, the document value of his properties is between Rs 100 crore and Rs 120 crore.
Officials suspect that to convert black money into white, Mohan had at least floated 8 companies in the name of his elder daughter. "We could not trace the offices of the companies as per the addresses in the documents," Ramadevi said.
Gold and silver jewellery and diamonds and other precious stones were also recovered in the raids. “We found 2 kg of gold and 5 kg of silver. The other assets are 14 flats in and around Hyderabad, and one building at Panjagutta, a 5-storeyed building in Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad, about 50 acres of land in Nellore, Prakasam and Chittoor districts. We also found Rs 83,000 cash,” Ramadevi said.
It is learnt that Mohan initially did not allow the ACB officials in his house. He also threw his mobile phone out, which was later recovered by the ACB sleuths.
The raids were conducted at Vijayawada, Anantapur, Kadapa, Bellary, Medak, Nellore, Prakasam and some places in Hyderabad.
