Varanasi: At least 12 persons were injured in a blast in the air-conditioning ducts at the emergency ward of Sir Sunder Lal Hospital at Banaras Hindu University here today, police said.
About 12-15 persons were injured in a blast in the AC ducts at the emergency ward of BHU hospital this afternoon, Station Officer of Lanka Police Station Sanjiv Mishra said.
Due to the blast, the false ceiling came down and window panes broke, causing injury to the patients and hospital staff present in the emergency ward. However, there was no outbreak of fire, Mishra said.
The injured were rushed to the trauma centre of BHU where their condition is stated to be stable.
The site of the accident has been sealed, the SHO said, adding that probe is on to ascertain the cause of the blast.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inquired about the condition of 12 people injured.
The prime minister also announced financial relief to four of the injured in the blast in an AC compressor pipe, and wished speedy recovery to all injured, an official statement said here.
