The way the test was conducted had screaming headlines this morning. Absolute shockers such as -- a girl been asked to remove her bra whose metal pin annoyed the metal detectors and the officials. The hapless medical aspirant was forced to remove the inner-wear in front of everyone.
Unaware of the Do's and Don'ts, there were candidates who were forced to cut their shirt's full sleeve to half, some had to abandon their footwear to comply with the CBSE's instructions for fair examination, no cheating. It just went a little too far. While the board officials' intention to prevent cheating is perfectly fine, the way the instructions were carried out was flawed.
Extreme measures
The board says it had set such rules to stop cases of cheating, which in all fairness was getting out of hand. Long sleeves, belts, hair accessories, jewellery being prohibited, some candidates had to spend precious time before the the test ensuring that their appearance was in accordance with the set rules to be allowed inside. Authorities at examination centres in Andhra Pradesh made women candidates untie their hair to prove they were not concealing any prohibited articles (read cheating material).
CBSE introduced guidelines after a test was cancelled following alleged irregularities in NEET last year. The All India Pre-Medical Dental Test was replaced by NEET in 2016 after a Supreme Court order. More than 11 lakh aspirants had registered for the test in 104 cities across the nation.
CBSE, in a bid to conduct fair examinations, went to extreme measures without considering the repercussions and without taking into account the inconvenience and harassment of students.
