Tremors felt in Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi-NCR after 6.1-magnitude earthquake hits Afghanistan; child killed in Pakistan's Balochistan

The intensity of the earthquake was recorded 6.1 on the Richter Scale, whose epicentre was somewhere in Afghanistan.

Earthquake tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi NCR region on Wednesday.

The intensity of the earthquake was recorded 6.1 on the Richter Scale. The quake hit at 0707 GMT (1237 IST) near Afghanistan's northern border with Tajikistan in the Hindu Kush mountains at a depth of 191 kilometres, the US Geological Survey said. 

The tremors, lasting a few seconds, were also felt in Delhi and the adjoining region, forcing people to run out of their homes and offices. Delhi Metro immediately halted operations - briefly. 

As it happened:

02:07 pm: According to reports, one infant was killed and nine of her family members reported injured in southwest Pakistan’s Balochistan province, following the collapse of a roof on their home

02:05 pm: In New Delhi, Delhi Metro trains were halted briefly but services were not disrupted.

01:42 pm:  Earthquake tremors felt in Dehradun at 12:41 pm 

01:22 pm: Tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR region and the rest of northern India at around 12:40 pm.

01:12 pm: Many in the national capital posted on social media that they felt the tremors. The lights shook in television studios.

01:06 pm: Strong tremors were felt in Punjab's Patiala, Firozpur and Pathankot for 15-20 seconds.

01:05 pm: An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 occurred in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region 14 minutes ago: EMSC (European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre)

12:59 pm: 6.1 magnitude earthquake was also recorded in Islamabad

12:55 pm: Strong tremors were also felt in Chandigarh.

12:54 pmTremors were also felt in several parts of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and western Uttar Pradesh. 

12:50 pmAs of now, there have been no reports of any casualty or damage.
