The Punjab Police have detained a 16-year-old boy for committing a heinous crime – murder. The Ludhiana based accused killed a nine-year-old boy, chopped his body into six pieces, ate the flesh and drank the blood.

Deepu Kumar, the victim, went missing on Monday. Next day, his beheaded body was found dumped in a vacant plot in the city's Dugri area.

The Police caught hold of the accused after they examined a CCTV footage in which is he was seen along with Deepu. According to them, both the minors were children of migrant labourers.

The 16-year-old accused later confessed the crime.

Narrating the same, he told the officials that he first took Deepu home at the time when their parents were at work. Then, he strangled the nine-year-old and then cut him into pieces with a sharp gardening tool inside the bathroom.

After committing the crime, the accused, a class VIII student, went to his home and behaved sanely, Police said. He also cooked and served dinner to his father.

"This is a case of cannibalism as the boy craves for human flesh. He told us that he would often want to eat raw chicken. At times he even craved to eat his own limbs, he said,” TOI quoted Deputy commissioner of Police Bhupinder Singh as saying.

The Police recovered Deepu’s heart under a water tank at the accused boy’s school who extracted it out of the former’s body and dumped it in the campus.

The boy was then taken for medical and psychological tests.
