Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced Padma Shri award for one individual from each ASEAN country, to bolster ties with the 10-member bloc. This can be seen as a move to promote India-ASEAN ties under New Delhi's Act East Policy.
The decision to confer the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, on one achiever from each ASEAN country came as the national capital hosted the landmark ASEAN India Commemorative Summit on Thursday.
