Uncle Talat Aziz presented a special ghazal for the newly-wed couple Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik at Hotel Taj Krishna on Wednesday evening. The reception is due on Thursday.
The Taj Krishna was lit up for the sangeet ceremony. The sangeet had the usual medley of choreographed dances to 15 Bollywood numbers, with the highlight being Sania and Shoaib doing a three-minute sequence.
Family and friends danced to songs from movies such as Karthik Calling Karthik, Om Shanti Om and Delhi 6. Actor Neha Dupia did a performance for the couple. Nasreen, Sania's mother, did a number with her new son-in-law.
Sania glowed in a glittering dress designed by Shantanu and Nikhil, who have done all her clothes and Shoaib wore a sherwani gifted by Sania's sister-in-law.
"There was a lot of excitement. Everyone had practiced their dances for days," said Fayaz Baig, Sania's uncle.
After the dances came the traditional shayari narrating the couple's love story. The concert began, captivating the 300-odd guests in the room. Talat Aziz, who is Sania's uncle, gifted this concert to his niece.
The dinner that followed was just as grand with separate salad and kebabs counters and trademark Hyderabadi cuisine for main course. There were seven starters, ten main course dishes followed by six kinds of desserts.
More guests arrived for the functions including former tennis players Jaideep Mukehrjee and Akhtar Ali.
