Five women die, two sustain injuries after speeding truck runs over them in Solapur

After the accident, local people rushed to the site and caught the truck driver. Huge crowd jammed the traffic at the accident site and thrashed the truck driver. The police dispersed the crowd after assuring strict action against the truck driver.

In a gruesome road accident, five women lost their lives while two others got injured after a speeding truck ran over them in Maharashtra’s Solapur district on Tuesday, police said.

The tragic accident happened in Bandgarwadi village on the Pandharpur-Atpadi Road around 3.45 in the evening, an official said. The official further added that the victims, who were farm workers, were waiting for a state transport bus when a speeding truck rammed into them.

Locals beat the truck driver

Upon hearing the women screaming, locals rushed to the scene and alerted the Sangola police station. A huge mob gathered at the accident scene, disrupting traffic on the road. After the accident, people in the nearby area caught the truck driver and thrashed him. Following that, they handed him over to the police.

The police officials said that the personnel from Sangola police station assured strict action against the driver and dispersed the crowd. The officials stated that the five women died on the spot, while two injured were in critical condition and were referred to a hospital in Pandharpur.

Meanwhile, the truck driver was also admitted to hospital as he sustained injuries in the attack by locals, the official said, adding that a case will be registered against him.

Two army jawans killed in road accident in Maharashtra

Earlier on June 16, two Indian Army jawans were killed while seven others were injured including two in critical condition, when a private bus collided with the autorickshaw they were traveling in near Nagpur. The incident involved 15 jawans from the Army's Guard Regimental Training Center (GRC) at Kamptee, located about 20 km from Nagpur.

The soldiers had gone shopping to Kanhan in two autos. On their return, a bus belonging to "Paval Travels" collided with one of the autos, crushing it, an official stated.
