Mumbai: Local train services on the Western Railway were disrupted on Monday morning due to a technical snag after a cable being cut at the Borivali station in Mumbai, according to officials. A technical malfunction at Borivali station has resulted in all Slow suburban trains experiencing delays of 15 to 20 minutes.
Borivali, situated in north Mumbai, stands as one of the busiest railway stations, catering to a significant number of commuters and office workers who rely on its local train services daily.
According to a spokesperson from the Western Railway, the disruption caused by the cut cable rendered some track-changing points non-operational, leading to the suspension of suburban train operations from platforms 1 and 2 at Borivali station. The official said that the trains were being operated from the remaining platforms 3 to 8 at the station.
Restoration work underway
The Western Railway said that the affected points were being clamped, and restoration work was underway on priority to restore normalcy.
The Western Railway said, "Due to some technical issues of cable being cut, point no 107/108, point no 111/112 & point no 131/132 are not operational currently therefore Suburban trains not being operated from platform nos 1 & 2 of Borivali Station. Trains are being operated from platform nos 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 at Borivali station. Point Nos 107, 108 & 111 are being clamped and restoration work is ongoing at priority to restore normalcy."
Everyday, the Western Railway runs over 1,300 suburban services, serving approximately 3 lakh commuters who travel across its network, spanning from Churchgate in south Mumbai to Dahanu in the neighbouring Palghar district.
