In a tragic incident, at least two minors lost their lives and three are reportedly missing after a group of five went swimming in a waterbody in Fatherwadi, Nalasopara (east), on Saturday.

The police said that while the bodies of the two minors, identified as Amit (11 years) and Abhishek (12 years), have been recovered, a search is ongoing to trace the whereabouts of the other three children who accompanied the deceased during the activity.

The police mentioned, based on preliminary information, the incident occurred around 2:30 pm on Saturday when a group of five children from the Santosh Bhavan area of Nalasopara went swimming in a nearby lake. Two of them drowned, while three are still missing.

Meanwhile, as the search for the remaining three is underway, the police are also investigating whether the three children have drowned or run away out of fear.

Further, in other news, two children also lost their lives due to drowning in an abandoned stone quarry in Thrikkodithanam, near Changanassery, on Saturday (June 15).

According to the available information, the deceased, identified as Aneesh Asha Adarsh of Madappally and Abhi of Manganam, near Puthuppally, were part of a six-member group that reached the quarry pond near the Chembupuram polders.

After Abhi lost his balance and fell into the waterbody, Aneesh jumped in to rescue his friend, but neither of them could make it out. Upon an alarm raised by the fellow group members, local people rushed to the spot and the bodies were fished out.
