In the Legislative Council election in Maharashtra, Shive Sena (UBT) candidate Anil Parab won the Mumbai Graduate constituency by defeating the BJP candidate.
He defeated BJP candidate Kiren Shelar by a massive margin of 26,012 votes. Parab got 44,784 votes while Shelar got merely 18,722 votes. A total of 67,644 voters had exercised their franchise in the polling on June 26. Out of the total votes polled, 64,222 were held valid, and the quota for winning was 32,112 votes. By winning the Mumbai Graduates seat, Anil Parab has retained the seat for his party, which was previously held by his fellow party leader Vilas Pontis.
Apart from this, BJP candidate Niranjan Davkhare was declared the winner in the seat of the Kokan Graduates constituency. He defeated Ramesh Khir of Congress. Niranjan defeated Ramesh by a margin of over 40,000 votes.
Notably, the polling for 4 legislative council seats was held on June 26. Apart from these two seats, Mumbai Teachers’ constituency and Nashik Division Teachers’ constituency also went to polls.
In Mumbai Teacher's seat, Professor J M Abhyankar of Shiv Sena (UBT) won the elections by a meagre margin of 649 votes.
