Maharashtra Legislative Council election: BJP announces names of five MLC candidates, Pankaja Munde finds spot

A total of 11 seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council are falling vacant as the six-year tenure of the incumbent MLCs is coming to an end. Out of these 11 seats, BJP has announced its candidates for five seats.

Ahead of the Member of Legislative Council elections in Maharashtra, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on Monday released a list of its five candidates. BJP's National General Secretary Arun Singh issued a press release announcing the names of candidates. 

The list also includes the name of senior BJP leader Pankaja Munde, who is a big OBC face in the party. Pankaja Munde recently contested the Lok Sabha election from Marathwada's Beed constituency and faced defeat. It was her second defeat in two consecutive elections, she contested in the state.

Here is the complete list of MLC candidates of the BJP:

  1.  Pankaja Munde 
  2. Yogesh Tilekar
  3. Dr. Parinay Phuke
  4.  Amit Gorkhe
  5.  Sadabhau Khot

The MLC elections in Maharashtra are slated for for July 12. There are 11 seats in the Upper House of the state on which the six-year tenure of incumbent MLCs is ending and hence the seats are again to be filled through elections. These 11 MLCs on these seats are Manisha Kayande (Shiv Sena), Vijay Girkar (BJP), Nilay Naik (BJP), Ramesh Patil (BJP), Dr. Wajahat Mirza (Congress), Dr. Pradnya Satav (Congress), Anil Parab (Shiv Sena – UBT), Ramrao Patil (BJP), Abdullah Khan Durrani (NCP), Mahadev Jankar (Rashtriya Samaj Party) and Jayant Patil (Peasants and Workers Party of India).

After voting on all the 11 seats on Juny 12, the results will be declared on same day in the evening.
