On the first day of the Maharashtra Assembly's monsoon session, former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray had an unexpected meeting. Both leaders used the same lift to reach the Legislative Council chamber, exchanging words while waiting and during the lift ride.
Renewed conversations
Despite previous electoral tensions, Fadnavis and Thackeray were seen conversing amicably. This meeting follows a period of sharp exchanges between the two leaders during the Lok Sabha elections.
Spontaneous meeting
The encounter occurred near the Assembly lift, where Thackeray was accompanied by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant Patil. Patil also visited the office of Opposition Leader Ambadas Danve in the Legislative Council, distributing chocolates and engaging in light-hearted conversation with Thackeray, Anil Parab, and other leaders.
MVA protests
Meanwhile, members of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition protested against the government within the state legislature premises, raising issues related to farmers and the NEET examination. The MVA comprises Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Congress, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
Boycott of CM's tea party
On the eve of the monsoon session, the opposition boycotted Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's tea party, accusing the government of failing to address public issues. The monsoon session is set to continue from June 27 to July 12, with the ruling Maha Yuti coalition (BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP) presenting the state budget on June 28. An interim budget had been presented earlier in February in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
