Days after the BJP's poor show in Maharashtra during the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis met Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday, wherein they discussed the party's abysmal performance in the state in the general polls.

At the meeting, Fadnavis reiterated his position to resign from the Deputy CM post to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a source said. Citing his reason behind the move, he said there is a need to work at the organizational level ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the state.

Significantly, while the decision over Fadnavis's resignation has not been made yet by the top leadership, a few reports suggest that this might give Fadnavis more freedom to operate at the state level ahead of the upcoming assembly polls.

Meanwhile, according to the reports, the Maharashtra Deputy CM, during the meeting held on June 6, also highlighted the points that could be one of the reasons behind the BJP's poor show. A source, as quoted by a media outlet, said Fadnavis cited that failure to change its MPs, the lack of coordination between the three Mahayuti allies, and the delay in finalizing the ruling alliance's seat-sharing could be other prominent reasons behind the BJP's poor show.

Significantly, the meeting comes after Devendra Fadnavis earlier offered to resign as Deputy CM.

"I take responsibility for such results in Maharashtra. I was leading the party. I am requesting the BJP high command to relieve me from the responsibility of the government so that I can work hard for the party in the upcoming elections," he said.

He further mentioned that he will try to fulfill whatever is lacking and is "not a person who will run away." He added that the BJP will prepare a new strategy for Maharashtra and will go back to the public soon.

"In elections, there is mathematics, and we are losing. MVA might have gotten 30 seats, but the vote share is almost the same. They have received 2 lakh 50 thousand votes, and we received 2 lakh 48 thousand votes," Fadnavis mentioned.
