Maharashtra Congress MLA PN Patil died at a private hospital in Kolhapur on Wednesday. According to sources, the 71-year-old leader was undergoing treatment after falling in his house. Patil, who represented the Karvir assembly constituency in Kolhapur district, suffered a severe head injury on Sunday after falling in the bathroom of his house, they added. His last rites will be performed on Thursday in his native village, Sadoli Khalsa.
He was undergoing treatment at the private hospital in Kolhapur since then. He was on life support and succumbed to complications on Wednesday morning, they said. Patil was the Kolhapur district Congress president. In 1995, he contested the assembly election for the first time from Sangrul in Kolhapur.
Maharashtra Congress president condoles Patil's demise
Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole condoled Patil's death. "Heartfelt tribute to MLA of KarvIr Assembly, former president of Kolhapur District Congress PN Patil. Congress party has lost a loyal leader. The Congress party is involved in this grief that has fallen on the Patil family. The entire Congress party stands in solidarity with Patil's family in this moment of sorrow," Patole wrote on X.
Who was PN Patil?
A dedicated leader within the Congress party and a staunch advocate for the Gandhi family, Patil secured victories in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from the Sangrul constituency in 2004 and from the Kanvir constituency in 2019, both times with significant mandates. His tenure as the district Congress president spanned an impressive two decades, starting in 1999, and he additionally held the position of vice president within the state Congress.
Beyond his political endeavours, Patil made significant contributions, notably as the founder of Rajivji Sahakari Soot Girni and Shripatrao Sahakari Bank. He also played roles as chairman and director of the Kolhapur District Central Cooperative Bank and as former chairman of Bhogavati Sugar Factory.
