The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Mumbai has issued a warning stating that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and moderate spells of rain, along with gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph, are likely to occur at isolated places. The affected districts include Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Beed, Jalna, Nasik, Pune, and Satara. These weather conditions are expected to persist for the next 3–4 hours. Residents in these areas are advised to stay indoors and take necessary precautions.
IMD predicts reduced rainfall intensity in Mumbai and Maharashtra
The IMD has forecasted a decrease in rainfall intensity starting from June 12 across Mumbai, Thane, and other districts of Maharashtra. Last week, residents in Mumbai, Thane, and neighboring areas experienced their first pre-monsoon showers, followed by isolated heavy downpours in recent days, offering relief from the sweltering heat and humidity. Some parts of the city received heavy rainfall on Sunday evening, with precipitation exceeding 100mm in certain areas.

- Mumbai: Light to moderate rainfall expected until June 16.
- Thane: Moderate rainfall forecasted until June 16, with occasional thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) in isolated areas.
- Palghar: Moderate rainfall expected until June 16, with occasional thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) in isolated areas.
- Raigad: Similar to Palghar, moderate rainfall is predicted until June 16, with occasional thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40kmph) in isolated spots.
- Pune: Moderate rainfall is anticipated until June 16, with occasional thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40kmph) in isolated areas on June 12 & 13.
- Ratnagiri: Moderate rainfall is expected until June 16, with occasional heavy rainfall at isolated places on June 12.
- Sindhudurg: Moderate rainfall is forecasted until June 16, with occasional heavy rainfall at isolated places on June 12.
Additionally, several other districts of Maharashtra, including Dhule, Jalgaon, Sangli, Solapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Nanded, Hingoli, Latur, Osmanabad, and Satara, are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall until June 16. Moreover, districts like Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (up to 40-50kmph) at isolated places until June 16.
Southwest monsoon update:
IMD announced that the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, and some more parts of Chhattisgarh on June 12, 2024. Favorable conditions are expected for its further advance into some more parts of Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the northwest Bay of Bengal over the next 3–4 days.
