AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday demanded Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Mumbai Police take immediate action against those involved in a deadly attack on AIMIM Malegaon president and former mayor Abdul Malik Mohammed Yunus Isa in Maharashtra's Nashik district.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the AIMIM chief and incumbent Hyderabad MP extended support to the family of the injured party leader and demanded the arrest of the 'murderers' involved in the 'conspiracy'.
He said, "AIMIM Malegaon president and former mayor Abdul Malik was shot thrice last night. He has been taken to Nashik for treatment. I spoke to his brother Dr. Khalid on the phone. We stand firmly with Abdul Malik's family. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Mumbai Police must take immediate steps. This is a conspiracy and the murderers should be arrested as soon as possible."
It is pertinent to note that the former Malegaon mayor and prominent leader of Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party became a victim of the deadly attack last night, as two unidentified assailants shot three rounds at him.
While Malik reportedly suffered injuries to his legs and chest, he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where his condition is said to be stable. Elaborating on the details of the incident, the police said the attack took place around 1:20 am when two motorbike-borne unidentified assailants fired three rounds at the AIMIM leader while he was sitting outside a shop on the old Agra road. They added that while the investigation is currently underway, no arrests have been made so far. The police also mentioned that a case has been registered against the attackers under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that this was the third attack against AIMIM leaders in a few months. Earlier, in February this year, AIMIM leader Abdul Salam was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Bihar’s Gopalganj district. The incident took place when Salam was on his way to catch a train when four assailants on two motorcycles fired at him. In December too last year, AIMIM's district president from Bihar's Siwan was shot dead in the state.
