Vidisha Election Results 2024: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday received a massive victory with a vote margin of 8,04,852 against his rival Congress candidate Pratap Bhanu Sharma.
Vidisha is one of 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in Madhya Pradesh. The Vidisha constituency is a high-profile seat because the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded senior party leader and former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Vidisha, a stronghold of BJP, is remembered for its links with veteran leaders such as former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former External Affairs Minister late Sushma Swaraj. The BJP has maintained hold of the constituency since 1989.

The Vidisha constituency in Madhya Pradesh went to polls in the third phase of Lok Sabha election on May 7 along with another two key seats Guna and Rajgarh.

Main parties and candidates
There is a direct poll fight between Congress and BJP in the Vidisha constituency. BJP's candidate Chouhan is returning to his home turf of Vidisha after almost 20 years as he won the constituency for the first time in 1991 and maintained his winning streak till 2004, bagging victory for five consecutive times. In 2005, Chouhan became the chief minister after resigning from the membership of the Parliament. On the other side, Congress pitted Pratap Bhanu Sharma against Chouhan. Sharma is former MP from Vidisha. He won Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency in 1980 and 1984.
What happened in 2014 and 2019?
BJP candidate Ramakant Bhargava won the seat for the first time with a margin of 5,03,084 votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections defeating Congress candidate Shailendra Rameshchandra Patel who got 3,49,938 votes. Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Geetawali Ahirwar stood third with 14,409 votes.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj won the seat for the second time in a row, defeating Congress candidate and Digvijaya Singh's brother Lakshman Singh. She was polled 7,14,348 votes with 66.53 per cent vote share, while Congress candidate got 3,03,650 votes with 28.28 per cent per cent vote share.
