Vidisha Election Results 2024: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday registered a thumping victory with a vote margin of 8,04,852 against his rival Congress candidate Pratap Bhanu Sharma. Chouhan was polled over 11,16,460 votes against Sharma's 2,95,052 votes.

Vidisha, a stronghold of BJP, is remembered for its links with veteran leaders such as former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former External Affairs Minister late Sushma Swaraj. With Chouhan's massive win, the BJP maintained the winning strea in the seat. The saffron party holds the constituency since 1989.

On the other side, Congress's Sharma had won Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency in 1980 and 1984.

Home turf for Shivraj Singh Chouhan

It was a homecoming for Chouhan after almost 20 years as he won the Vidisha constituency for the first time in 1991 and maintained his winning streak till 2004, registering victory for five consecutive times. In 2005, Chouhan became the chief minister and subsequently resigned from the membership of the Parliament.

What happened in 2014 and 2019?

BJP candidate Ramakant Bhargava won the seat defeating Congress candidate Shailendra Rameshchandra Patel for the first time with a margin of 5,03,084 votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj won the seat for the second time in a row, defeating Congress candidate and Digvijaya Singh's brother Lakshman Singh.
