The Congress party is facing political headwinds amidst the ongoing elections. Just three days before the third phase of Lok Sabha election, Nirmala Sapre, the only party MLA from Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Sapre, who represents the Scheduled Caste (SC) category in Bundelkhand, is Congress MLA from Bina Assembly. In the 2023 assembly elections, she defeated two-time BJP MLA Mahesh Rai by a thin margin of 6000 votes. She joined the ruling party in the presence of state Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav in the meeting of Rahatgarh in Sagar district.
Notably, CM Yadav was in Rahatgarh of Surkhi assembly which comes under Sagar Lok Sabha. He held a public meeting in support of Sagar constituency candidate Lata Wankhede.
What Nirmala Sapre said?
After joining BJP, Spare attacked Congress and said that the party neither has a government nor an agenda. She said, said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi and state Chief Minister Mohan Yadav have an agenda of development. I saw in the last 6 months that the development of my area was being blocked... I have joined BJP to get my area developed along with the flow of development... We cannot get the area developed by staying in Congress because neither do they have a government nor do they have any agenda..."
This is the second big setback to Congress, days after its Indore Lok Sabha candidate, Akshay Kanti Bam ditched the party to join the saffron party. The Congress fielded Akshay from Indore Lok Sabha, where elections are slated for May 13. On April 29, he reached the Collector’s office and withdrew his nomination, after which he joined the BJP.
CM Mohan Yadav slams Rahul Gandhi
Meanwhile, CM Yadav addressed a public meeting in Guna Lok Sabha constituency and targeted Congress party. He also took a dig at Rahul Gandhi saying that she snatched the right of her sister Priyanka Gandhi by filing nomination from Rae Bareli. He also said that Rahul Gandhi fled from Amethi (Uttar Pradesh) to Wayanad (Kerala) due to fear of defeat. He said that there is sea ahead (in Kerala), otherwise I don't know where Rahul Gandhi would have gone.
