The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has granted permission for a 17-year-old girl to donate a portion of her liver to her father, who is suffering from a severe liver disease and requires an urgent transplant.
Shivnarayan Batham, a 42-year-old farmer from rural Indore, petitioned the High Court, explaining that his daughter Preeti was willing to donate part of her liver to him. Batham requested the court's approval for the life-saving procedure.
During the hearing before Justice Vishal Mishra, the government counsel presented findings from a state-constituted medical board, which had examined Preeti and determined that she was fit to donate a part of her liver to her father. Based on this medical report, the court approved Batham's plea.
The single bench also ordered that the liver transplant be conducted at the earliest opportunity, with all necessary precautions in place. Batham's lawyer, Nilesh Manore, shared that his client had been battling a serious liver ailment for the past six years and was currently admitted to a private hospital in the city.
Manore further explained that Batham has five daughters, and his eldest child, Preeti, had volunteered to donate part of her liver to save her father's life. Preeti is set to turn 18 on July 31.
"Batham's father is 80 years old, and his wife is a diabetic patient, so his daughter stepped forward to help," Manore said. "I’m proud of my daughter," Batham expressed.
