In a significant operation, Madhya Pradesh raided a residence in Ujjain and uncovered a substantial stash of illicit assets. The raid led to the seizure of Rs 14.6 crore in cash, alongside 7 kilograms of silver and foreign currency from seven different countries. This discovery points to a major illegal operation likely tied to betting activities, officials said.
During a subsequent raid on a second hideout believed to be associated with the same network, the police arrested nine people suspected of being involved in the betting racket. The police also confiscated more than ten mobile phones and seven laptops, further indicating the scale and sophistication of the operations conducted by these bookies.
What did the Madhya Pradesh IG say?
Inspector General (IG) Santosh Kumar Singh, who oversaw the raids, confirmed the details of the seizures and arrests. He also noted that the primary suspect, Piyush Chopra, remains at large and is currently evading capture. He added that authorities are intensifying their efforts to locate and apprehend him to dismantle the entire operation. "Yesterday, during raids those accused of online gaming were arrested and foreign currencies were also seized. Apart from this, 14 crore 60 lakh were also seized. Several electronic gadgets like mobile phones, laptops and iPads. Nine people have been arrested. The main accused is still absconding and our teams are searching for him..." the IG added.
