In a tragic incident, at least three persons including a woman and her son were killed and three others sustained injuries during sand mining in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district on Wednesday. Additional Superintendent of Police Suryakant Sharma said that the incident took place on the river bank at Katra Ramkhiriya village. The deceased have been identified as Munni Bai (50), her son Mukesh (35) and another person named Rajkumar Khatik (25).

Some people were digging up sand for the construction of a temple in the village when a huge mound of sand collapsed on them, Sharma said, adding that injured people were undergoing treatment. Police registered a case of accidental deaths and further investigation was underway, Sharma added.

Revenue official crushed to death by tractor-trolley involved in illegal sand mining

Last year in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district, a local revenue department official, known as a patwari, was killed after being crushed by a tractor-trolley engaged in illegal sand mining. The incident unfolded on November 25, prompting swift police action and leading to the arrest of the vehicle's driver.

The patrolling team, including patwari Prasann Singh, intercepted the tractor-trolley near Son River in the Gopalpur area, a known hotspot for illegal sand mining activities. Singh, posted in Khadda of Bohari tehsil, attempted to halt the vehicle carrying unlawfully mined sand. Tragically, the driver callously ran over Singh, resulting in his immediate death. The driver fled the scene with the vehicle, compounding the severity of the situation.
