In a tragic road accident, at least four people, including a woman and a child, were charred to death in a fire on Saturday evening after two trucks collided in the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, police said.
According to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Rewa range Saket Pandey, both the trucks were carrying highly inflammable cargo. They collided on a bypass, about 10 km off the Rewa district headquarters. The intensity of the horrific incident led to the bodies being crushed inside and required the use of gas cutters to extract them from the mangled and gutted vehicles. The deceased include a truck driver and cleaner, along with a local woman and her 10-year-old child, who succumbed to the flames, DIG Pandey said.
As per the initial findings, the brakes of one of the trucks failed, due to which the driver leaped out resulting in a collision. DIG Pandey said that the search to arrest the absconding driver was underway. Meanwhile, an investigation into the accident has also been launched and authorities are trying to identify the deceased and their relatives.
