A five-year-old boy named Deepak Thakur died in Jabalpur's Gohalpur area when a piece of steel pierced his stomach during a firecracker celebration. The children had placed a firecracker under a steel glass, which exploded and sent steel fragments flying. Deepak, standing nearby, was fatally injured. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

Investigation underway

The Gohalpur police station, led by in-charge Pratiksha Marco, is investigating the incident. Authorities are examining CCTV footage to understand the sequence of events. The tragic accident occurred as children were celebrating India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024.

T20 World Cup final viewership

The T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa saw a peak concurrent viewership of 5.3 crore on Disney+Hotstar. Although impressive, this number fell short of the record 5.9 crore peak viewership set during the India-Australia ODI final in November 2023.

Constant engagement

Despite not breaking the record, the final match maintained high engagement, with 4 to 4.5 crore viewers consistently watching due to the nail-biting finish. Karan Taurani, SVP of Elara Capital, highlighted this sustained viewership as noteworthy. Even during the post-match ceremony, viewership remained between 2.5 and 3 crore.

Broadcast rights

Disney Star held exclusive broadcast and media rights for the T20 World Cup final, airing it on both linear and digital platforms. Viewership data for the television broadcast will be released by the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) a week later.
