Dalit couple tied to pole, beaten, made to wear garlands of shoes in Madhya Pradesh's Ashok Nagar district

The couple's son had allegedly been involved in an eve-teasing incident. A case has been registered against 10 persons who were at large in connection with the incident.

Ashok Nagar: An elderly Dalit couple was allegedly tied to a pole, beaten and forced to wear garlands of shoes in Madhya Pradesh's Ashok Nagar district, police reported on Sunday. The incident took place on Friday in Kilora village under Mungaoli police station limits. 

According to an official, a case has been registered against 10 persons who were at large in connection with the incident of thrashing the couple.

Couple's son was involved in eve-teasing 

Mungaoli police station in-charge Gabbar Singh Gurjar said that the couple's son was allegedly involved in eve-teasing the wife of one of the accused, leading the Dalit family to leave the village. He said that the couple came to the village recently.

On Friday, the accused allegedly tied the 65-year-old Dalit man and his 60-year-old wife to a pole, beat them, and forced them to wear garlands made of shoes, the official said.

10 persons booked

Following a complaint by the victim woman, the police registered a case against 10 people under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly with common objective), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (obscene act), and 506 (criminal intimidation), as well as provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. 

The accused are currently absconding, and efforts are underway to locate them, according to the police.
