Depression has become a common health disorder in India, especially among teenagers. There are several issues which can lead to depression among teenagers. Academic pressure, social pressure, or family expectations can create a strong sense of rejection and can lead to deep disappointment among teenagers. Sometimes due to depression, youngsters take extreme steps which can turn risky for them and their family members as well. Sometimes people suffering from depression even try to commit suicide.
To understand and help teenagers suffering from depression, Noida-based artist Husnal, a Class 12 student, through painting and model making, tried to create awareness about depression in teenagers.
After witnessing a close family member who suffered from depression, she tried to explore her creativity in an attempt to understand the real reason of depression. She also displayed her art at the Grand Venice Mall in Noida.
She is a student of Model School, Delhi. Husnal’s art sheds light on the issue of growing mental illness and depression among children.
Adolescence is always an unsettling time, with many physical, emotional, psychological and social changes that accompany this stage of life.
Depression can be difficult to diagnose in teens because adults may expect teens to act moody. They may not be aware of the symptoms of depression and may not seek help. Husnal hopes to offer a unique perspective on teen depression through her work. Through an inimitable combination of creativity and art, her paintings also depict ways to help younger minds, who struggle with anxieties, to come out of depression.
Husnal’s arts are also available for sale on an online platform. The revenue generated from it will be used to help and encourage children suffering from depression, orphans and those from lower economic backgrounds.
