A 21-year-old British man, Hayden Cross became the first transgender man in UK to give birth to a baby. Cross was born a female but now is legally a male for three years. He decided to stop the transgender hormone treatment for some time to give birth to a baby, when he met a sperm donor on Facebook. He’s making headlines around the world and also sparked an ethical debate about his pregnancy, earlier this year. It is thought to have been first of this kind of case in the UK.
On the night of 6th July, 2017 his family confirmed the birth of a girl, Trinity-Leigh Louise Cross, in a Facebook state. Both the baby and the man were going well. Hayden becomes the first known transgender man to have his own baby in Britain.
The baby was born on 16th June, 2017 but the news went out only this month. The baby girl was born at Women’s Centre, the maternity wing of Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Gloucestershire Register Office registered the birth on Wednesday. On the birth certificate, Hayden Cross has been mentioned as a mother, but the column bearing father’s name is left blank.
Hayden, who was Paige earlier, revealed that the baby was conceived in September. But the sperm donor’s identity has not been revealed. The sperm was handed over to Hayden at his doorstep, maintaining the secrecy of the donor.
Cross told Daily Mail, how he was craving for his own baby despite being a man. He knew he won’t be able to conceive once his sex change was complete. So he stopped his hormone treatment to conceive a baby.
